I study the archaeology and the history of the Metis. The Metis are a community with a unique culture identity arising out of the complex social interactions of the fur trade area in Canada. The history of our community has not been the focus of much academic research until recently, I use digital mapping techniques and archaeology excavations of Metis material culture to explore the extent of Metis homeland, familiar to most as the landscape of Canadian prairie provinces. My main focus has been on ethnogenesis （种族进化）which I study via overwintering sites. A type of site where Metis families would spend the winter hunting dwindling bison populations in the late 19th century. Archaeological investigation of these areas has great potential to contribute to our understanding of the Metis culture landscape, the origin of the Metis people until undergoing legal battles over Metis aboriginal rights in Canada.
