PTE Re-tell Lecture

The deep question which was one that in some sense drove Einstein was would we know about the sun disappearance by feeling it? by the laws of sun’s gravity? or by seeing the loss of the sun’s light first, which would we see first. According to Newton, we’d actually feel the sun had disappeared because once it goes away, it’s gravity according to Newton disappears instantaneously. So we fly off into the space, even though we still see the sun in the sky for it takes eight minutes for the light from the sun to reach us. Einstein, however, reworked the laws of gravity, and found the gravity doesn’t travel instantaneously from place to place. Instead, it travels at the speed of light. So in Einstein’s reworking, we feel the loss of the sun gravitationally at exactly the same moment that we’d see the loss of the sun by virtue of the sky going dark eight minutes after it happened.
