PTE Re-tell Lecture

Transcript:

We don’t have any meteorites from Mercury, Mercury is too close to the Sun. Any meteorite like that flow off of Mercury will not come back out to the Earth. It would probably go into the sun instead. So we don’t think we have any meteorites in Mercury. But we can do the same sort of thing, so this is the messenger machine that orbited Mercury and based on their data, they were able to determine that there is a solid iron core from Mercury, a Molten core with iron sulfur and silicon and then this Fes layer. Now you’ll notice that Mercury is mostly core. Why is Mercury mostly core VS the earth which is core pluses this huge mantle. If you think about to those giant impacts that I’ve showed you for the earth for example, it’s thought there was a giant impact that hit Mercury so hard that its mantle got stripped off of it and just flew into the sun. And so the only thing that ‘s basically left is this giant core of a planet.
