Modern people nowadays have become busier than they used to be, discuss the reasons?

Recent decades have witnessed a trend in which people have become more workaholic today than they were before. Many modern people argue that they tend to have fewer leisure opportunities due to their busier work schedule than those in the past. I personally agree with this point of view for the following reasons.
There is obviously more competition today than in the past that contributes to the concerning work-life imbalance in society, nowadays. Social competition is becoming increasingly fierce and it urges people to concentrate their efforts on work. As a result of being afraid of losing promotion chances, or even being “laid off”, there has been a growth in the number of workers who choose to stay working and not taking any break throughout the whole year.
Moreover, modern technology makes it almost impossible to escape the office, today. With the rapid and wide application of modern technologies, people are able to work whenever and wherever. It is no wonder that many holiday resorts see large number of people keeping an eye on their phones, Ipads and computers to do their office work remotely while on a break. However, there were no such channels available to support people telecommuting away from the traditional offices decades ago, and it was a time when people were unable to contact the office. This made it more likely for people to unwind completely.
In conclusion, I contend that the pressing competition work environment and the rapid pace of technological advances today leave people with no alternatives other than to work far harder than their equivalents did in the past.
