Some people think rote learning (memorization of information through frequent repetition) is not useful for schools today. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
For years, educators have been complaining about （注意动词时态）the adverse effects （“负面影响”，词汇搭配多样）that the traditional technique of rote memorization has exerted on（“施加于”，高分词汇，对于前面的adverse effects） schooling（同义词替换）.
Overemphasis （“过分强调”）on rote memorization（同义替换）, doubtless, （“无疑地”，副词插入语表强调）inhibits the learning process （“抑制了学习过程”，词汇多样）. Once young students acquire the data they need, they tend to stop there if they are not encouraged to analyse this data （条件假设，逻辑清晰）. Essentially（“本质上”，高分词汇）, education that overemphasises rote learning makes students worship（“崇拜”，高分词汇） the taught “facts”, just as （无痕迹引出例证）the European clergy （“牧师”）did with their holy scriptures in medieval times （“中世纪圣经”，词汇丰富多样）and as the test-takers in China did with the Confucian orthodoxy （“儒家正学”）in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. （举例论证精彩，句式多样）
Even so （转折）, I believe rote learning still holds certain unique advantages （搭配准确多样）, which mainly have to do with practicality （“实用性”，高分词汇）.
Day-care and kindergarten children and lower-elementary （“小学低年级”）students are far better at remembering data than at （介词对应准确）comprehending （“理解”，高分词汇） concepts and theories. So as （无痕迹引出类比论证）a learning process, merely committing information to memory （同义词替换）through repetition would be more realistic and more efficient for children in this age group than understanding abstractions （“抽象概念”，高分词汇）at such a young age.
Even for upper-elementary, secondary school students and university undergraduates whose main task is to develop a more independent mind （even for…whose从句无痕迹让步对比， develop a independent mind用词准确）, rote learning also carries certain benefits. For instance, the grammatical points in language learning, historical and geographic facts as well as physical and chemical equations all require certain amounts of rote memorization before they can be actively applied by the students.（举例丰富词汇多样）
Thus, I would argue that rote learning can be beneficial when （同义替换）it is not regarded as an end in itself, but as （not regarded as…but as…转折对比，句式多样，一句话概括全文结构）the process of laying the groundwork （“奠定基础”，高分词汇）for the subsequent acquisition of conceptual knowledge and the development of critical thinking skills （词汇多样，总结全面，线性逻辑清晰）.
