The subject to this mini lecture is why are stock prices so volatile in comparison to prices of goods and services. Let me offer two quick thoughts on this question. First, buying and selling stocks is easy, quick and low-cost. This is not the case for most other things. The ability to trade things cheaply and quickly can be a cause of price volatility. This argument becomes more convincing when we consider basic features of human behavior, and this is my second point. On the one hand, risk aversion or fear can cause people to sell stocks when prices are falling, pushing prices down even further. On the other hand, let us be wealthier or greed can cause people to buy stocks when prices are rising, pushing prices up even further. In short, human nature and conjunction with sophisticated trading systems are part of the reason stock prices move so much, while left prices and many other things. Thank you.
