PTE Re-tell Lecture

We stay busy as Lee mentioned we do the robotics and space walks to support the construction and maintenance of the station and we have a lot of earth photographer we do for the earth scientist, but there’s a lot of other science we do in the space as well, and really it’s an international effort. One day I was talking to scientists from the US, Germany, Japan and Russia and it was really kind of neat. then well in the microgravity environment, if you can roll the tape, there is a really nice visual of why we do studies in space. This is water, it’s a reptile, I am a reptile, on the ground of course gravity drives behaviour of liquids, especially, you know, when you pour into a glass, it stays in the glass, it takes the shape of glass because that’s gravity, gravity working on the water, in space for liquid something called surface tension takes over and that drives the behaviour, so here you see very strong example of what surface tension forces to do when they interacting with your hand with other surface. It kinda gives water a sticky, liquids are sticky feel if you well and so will they in space doing these experiments on you know various phenomenon just understand what changes because as we learn how materials go differently? how liquids behave differently? how our bodies change in space? We can take all of that knowledge not only apply it to make technology, we need to continue exploration, but we can take that technology and bring it back to everyday life, you know, your UV contacts in your sunglasses, some of your guys are in the golf for bicycling you got very strong light metals, and all these things come out of the space program, so this is why we on the space station.
