Neutrinos are a kind of particle that is extremely light, has very little mass, has no electric charge and only interacts via the weak nuclear force, which means that it’s very hard to capture these little wispy particles. They can pass through enormous quantities of solid material with ease, without being even deflected as they pass through trillions of miles of lead. Nevertheless, we know these particles exist by virtue of other interactions that wouldn’t be self-consistent, they would make sense if neutrino weren’t part of the story and now we’ve got experimental evidence that these particles are there. However, difficult it is to capture them.
