But it doesn’t matter if it’s a local resident, a visiting person from central Australia or a tourist, we don’t condone or support any crime (condone宽恕、容忍,和crime或各类具体犯罪搭配), we want to stamp it all out (口语中stamp sth out意为消除灭除某一有危险性的事物,语气强烈!!

“There is crime in our society, we always have to try to get in front of the ledger (ledger原指记账本,这里意为在犯罪行为被记录下来之前就干涉,指防患于未然).

Mr Giles recently claimed the Government had reduced crime in the outback town (the outback尤指澳洲内陆比较荒芜的地区), which has a reputation for alcohol-related violence.

Police said “compared to the number of people in Alice Springs, the town was relatively quiet over the Easter long weekend” (过去分词作伴随状语,主语相同,表达主语被与某事物比较).

There were at least 30 incidents of graffiti at about five locations on Monday night, police said.

We didn’t have the volume of calls we expected: Police

The holidays saw thousands of visitors flocking to (flock to很形象地表达了大量游客涌入) the outback town for a national mountain bike race, the AFL’s central Australia Easter footy carnival, the speedway and a heavy metal concert.

“The crowd was very well behaved,” Superintendent Wurst said.

“It was a fantastic weekend.

“We had a lot of people in Alice Springs. We saw that late last weekend there were huge numbers (注意这里numbers后面省略‘of people’以避免重复,英语书面口头都有这样的用法,当前面出现过一个主要名词,那么在后句中就可以在量词后省略这个名词) around town camps.

“We didn’t have the high volume of calls to service we expected over the weekend.

“We found the visitors to Alice Springs behaved very well.”
