犯罪类话题也是雅思学术写作task2中剑桥官方“喜闻乐见”而广大烤鸭“深恶痛绝”的一类题目。主要原因是犯罪率的增长在主要欧美国家都是一个长期的社会问题,而对于中国学生来说确实比较陌生的话题,所以很多时候会觉得缺乏足够的词汇去表达自己的观点。那我们就来这篇对于刚过去的Easter假期期间犯罪率的报道来学一些最地道的表达方式:

Police said “compared to the number of people in Alice Springs, the town was relatively quiet over the Easter long weekend” (过去分词作伴随状语,主语相同,表达主语被与某事物比较).
There were at least 30 incidents of graffiti at about five locations on Monday night, police said.

The holidays saw thousands of visitors flocking to (flock to很形象地表达了大量游客涌入) the outback town for a national mountain bike race, the AFL’s central Australia Easter footy carnival, the speedway and a heavy metal concert.

“It was a fantastic weekend.
“We had a lot of people in Alice Springs. We saw that late last weekend there were huge numbers (注意这里numbers后面省略‘of people’以避免重复,英语书面口头都有这样的用法,当前面出现过一个主要名词,那么在后句中就可以在量词后省略这个名词) around town camps.
“We didn’t have the high volume of calls to service we expected over the weekend.
