Global warming is one of the most serious issues that the world is facing today. What are the causes of global warming and what measures can governments and individuals take to tackle the issue?

Global warming and its related detrimental effects have recently become a headache for countries around the world. Scientists and environmental activists continue to argue over the seriousness of this environmental predicament. There are several reasons in society responsible for this. I contend that the active participation of both governments and the general
Public plays the key role in combating this problem.

Broadly speaking, gradually causing the temperature of the earth to rise, the greenhouse effect contributes mainly to the warmer world. To make it more clearly, this effect is a complicated process in which heat produced by polluting gases is unable to escape from the atmosphere, and finally results in a higher temperature worldwide. And this could bring disastrous results, such as raised sea levels, famine and drought in many cities. Those polluting gases are mainly consisted of carbon dioxide and Methane produced by an increasing number of house stocks such as cattle, and more importantly a booming world’s population increased by 86m a year.
Obviously, industries have been built everywhere to satisfy the financial interests for human beings, which however in turn yield an overwhelming environment filled with all sorts of polluted gases. What is worse, exhaust fume produced by an enormous number of cars have seriously aggravate the already grave global warming situation. Thus, the temperature climbed more rapidly in the twentieth century as the use of fossil fuel proliferated.

In view of such a pressing environmental damage, urgent steps must be taken by both the government and its residents. For one thing, effective legislation, such as restricting the number of private cars, or strict car emission control by using high technology such as hybrid should be introduced. Moreover, the government should put more money and scientific resources in the exploits of renewable resources such as wind power, solar, tide and hydro-electric to replace gas, oil and coal, just as what already occurred in many big countries like the USA and China. For general public, they can always avoid using private cars when public transports are available. In addition, an awareness of saving energy either at home or public places needs to be improved initially. All of these proactivity could be largely conducive to gas emissions ‘reduction, and finally alleviate the problem to some extent.
In conclusion, the seriousness of global warming is mainly due to the polluted gas produced by people and their modern life necessities. To deal with it effectively requires the closer collaboration between governments and residents.
