I am a director and specifically a director of life theatre because I believe that theatre is vital to the well-being of any society. Theatre is one of the sources of ritual and metaphor left to us. It makes visible literal realities about the human condition, and creates resonant images, that reveal non-literal or hidden truths, which lurk beneath the surface. Working with the extended physicality and language. My research is a director involves the exploration of theatrical form, searching for a more expressive theatre language that transcends berries and conventions, like the image you see here. Much of my research is devoted to the creation of new work. My practice includes dramaturgy, the theatrical answer to script editing. Directing involves a certain amount of detective work. The script presents a skeleton of something which is filled in by the work of the director. Great scripts offer intense mysteries. The directors interpretation unravels the mysterious of that skeleton why doesn’t Hamlet kill Claudius right away. It’s up to the director, working to shape a production that solves that mystery.
