Because black holes are black, we don’t see them directly and that’s what makes it challenge to find them, but we believe we have seen them indirectly by the way they influence their environment, so for instance in the center of our galaxy, we believe there is a very massive black hole one that weighs maybe three million times as much as the Sun. The way we believe it’s there, the evidence that we’ve gathered is that we can watch stars in orbit around the center of our galaxy and they are whipping around so quickly that the only object that we can theorise, that would have the capacity to impart that fantastic velocity to these stars would be an object that would have the gravitational pull of black hole. Therefore, we believe that there is a black hole in the center of our galaxy.
