Hi, I’m XXX, a folklorist in the cool folklore centre, I am interested in how traditions continue and how they change over time. One of my current projects follows Ukrainian wedding traditions in Canada, in Brazil and in Ukraine itself. I have spent time in three continents doing field work documenting actual weddings and talking with people. It is amazing how community rituals are affected by the old models, by the personal values of participants in each generation and by the local environment. Humans are deeply committed to customs. We need to understand how traditions work because that’s how we can grow in empathy and tolerance. Openness to each other’s cultures is one of the greatest needs for the humanity in the 21st century.
