Miss Universe Australia finalist Tegan Martin has revealed that the beauty pageant judges told her she was ‘too skinny’, ‘under nourished’ and must gain weight.
On Thursday the 21-year-old model/actress, who is taking part in this years competition, told the MailOnline that on the night of the 2013 final the judges were alarmed by her worryingly thin frame.
‘Last year I was told I was too skinny and that I didn’t look healthy on stage,’ said the now size eight model.

She went on to say: ‘There’s a lot of pressure for young women to conform to unrealistic targets because there’s a lot of high-profile celebrities that you see in the media that are constantly dropping extreme amounts of weight.’
But the judges’ warning rang alarm bells in her head and she said she’s taken their comments on board and ‘turned it into a strength’.
She was impressed by 2013’s winner Olivia Wells: ‘She has a beautiful figure and she’s not skinny, skinny – she looked amazing.’
Reports surfaced last year that the reason Tegan hadn’t won two years prior was because judges told her she was too thin, but the 22-year-old says while that was not the case, her family did tell her she could use a little more meat on her bones.
