It has been argued that some people think our behaviour is changed by law, in my opinion, law has not only restrain our behaviour but also alters people’s way of living. Legislation about upcoming technologies, science breakthrough and medical issues is also changing our behaviour to a large extent.
First of all, societal concerns and regulations regarding to science and technology has largely constrained the speed of development of human beings, that is to say, in some areas, we are restricted by law in every facet of life. For example, America has recently banned ZTE, a Chinese telecommunication company from importing electrical parts since it has breached the law of fair trade and regulations. As a result, people working for ZTE might face unemployment at scale.
On the other hand, law has plenty of limitations which might alter people’s choices towards life. Although almost every law is enacted to protect human rights, there is always dark side behind it. For instance, since many countries have banned tobacco, people may seek other ways to find alternatives such as electronic cigarettes.
To conclude, law indeed has changed people’s behaviour in many ways, given that it is not only a mandatory tool to regulate human society, but also a direct way to make right things happen. However, the influence of law can range from specific behaviours in a narrow context that are easily measured such as the decline in smoking to the more complex and far-reaching.
